Puzzlebox Easter Party: Celebrating Our Second Christmas

In PuzzleBox, Easter is celebrated with the same merriment as Christmas. As a company tradition, we always carve some time from our busy calendar to be with our colleagues.

Easter concludes Lent or Jesus’ 40-day reflection in the wilderness before setting off to become the “fisher of men”. As with the battle between the good and evil, this was also the time in which He overcame various temptations from the devil.

Importantly, Easter is a celebration of His resurrection from the dead, making it one of the most important Christian holidays.

But where does the Easter Bunny fall under all of these?

There’s no bible passage about Easter Bunny or kids painting eggs… and our fluffy friends certainly don’t lay eggs.

These holiday trinkets, stemming from pagan roots, were just incorporated into the Easter celebration – definitely separated from Christian’s exalting Jesus’ resurrection. The Teutonic deity Eostra was the goddess of spring and fertility, and feasts were held in her honor on the Vernal Equinox.

Vernal Equinox happens during spring in the northern hemisphere. Equinox, which occurs twice each year, is a time when day and night are of approximately equal duration all over the planet.

Eostra’s symbol was the rabbit because of the animal’s high reproduction rate. Spring also symbolizes new life and rebirth and eggs were an ancient symbol of fertility, thus, fitting for Easter Sunday.
